[Key Excerpts]
The testimony opens by declaring that the three witnesses wish to make known to all nations and peoples that they have seen the plates from which the Book of Mormon was translated, and that they bear record that the engravings thereon were shown to them by the power of God and not of man.
They testify that an angel of God came down from heaven, brought the plates, and laid them before their eyes so that they could see and view the plates and the engravings upon them. They further state that they know the work is true because the voice of the Lord commanded them to bear record of it.
The testimony concludes with each of the three — Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer, and Martin Harris — affixing their names, declaring that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost bear record of these things, and that it is marvelous in their eyes, yet the voice of the Lord commanded them to bear record.
Notable: Despite all three men eventually leaving or being excommunicated from the church at various points, none of them ever recanted this testimony. All three reaffirmed it throughout their lives, even when they were publicly critical of Joseph Smith on other matters.
